“OUR NEW PATTERN HAD THE WORKING NAME PAPILLON. IT WAS FUN THAT THE HOTEL BAR WAS LATER NAMED PAPILLON.” - Mary-Ellen Axelsson, Kasthall
One of Jonathan’s assignments at Bank Hotel was to create a bar with a feminine atmosphere. Together with Mary-Ellen, it was decided that the bar would have a patterned wall-to-wall carpet from Kasthall. Mary-Ellen found inspiration for the pattern from antique French wallpapers that she liked.
“We had to create a new pattern from scratch. I knew that Ida-Marie All, who works with production at our factory in Kinna, had illustrated some lovely patterns which I had seen on Instagram. So she helped us to create the artwork, which was then sent to Kasthall’s design department, which in turn created a repeat pattern.”
After that, the carpet was printed digitally. A new printing technique of 100dpi enabled a final result with distinct floral patterns without color limitations, on a deep forest green base with butterflies flying from flower to flower.
