Interpretation of a kasthall icon
Each Kasthall rug tells a story, and the story of Goose Eye Anniversary starts even before Kasthall was founded in 1889. Variants of the Goose Eye pattern have been woven into Scandinavian design culture for centuries. Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg, Kasthall’s lead designer between 1987-2015, was inspired by ethnic fashion fabrics and traditional folk costumes when she adapted this historic pattern as a part of Häggå, a family of patterns brought to the Kasthall collection in the late 1980s. In 2014, she refined the design further by creating the Goose Eye Icon rug. Now, it’s time for a new interpretation.

Ever since its introduction, the Goose Eye has remained one of the company’s most recognizable and beloved patterns, making it the perfect choice for Kasthall’s 135th anniversary rug.
To create this special anniversary rug, the design team returned to the pattern’s essence and created something that reflects the company’s heritage, yet feels distinctly modern. The rug, made of pure wool, was given a wider edging, lending it a refined and luxurious framing. Chenille and bouclé, manufactured in-house at Kasthall’s factory in Kinna, were added as effect yarns to add luster and enhance its premium feel. An exclusive leather label embossed with Kasthall’s anniversary logo is stitched to each rug – a subtle and elegant nod to the company’s 135-year history. Five new colorways were created: Pink Bliss, Blue Amber, Minty Fresh, Soft Pearl and Black Velvet.
“The Goose Eye pattern, cherished for generations, has been reimagined with a modern twist that harmonizes tradition with contemporary design,” says Ingalill Ulvdell, Head of Range at Kasthall. “While some shades are inspired by historical collections, others reflect a fresh, innovative perspective. This allows the rug to complement both classic and modern interiors.”
