about kasthall

Makers of beautiful rugs. Creators of design culture.

Making something is a pure, beautiful thing.

Kasthall has always been about making. Rooted in tradition, carried forward by the hands and minds of its craftspeople. From weaving and tufting to material innovation, the craft evolves through knowledge passed on, refined and reimagined. The logic of the maker can also be inherently sustainable, in more ways than one. It can sustain —  creatively, socially and spiritually.

The heartbeat of Kasthall

The mill in Kinna, Sweden, is the heart of Kasthall, where industrial craft and human skill bring each rug to life. From yarn spinning to weaving and finishing, every step takes place under one roof. Skills can be learned, mastery must be earned. Kasthall’s craftspeople are true masters. This way of working is built on knowledge passed on over generations, but it doesn’t stand still. New techniques, materials and collaborations are part of the same continuum.

Kasthall Design Studio

While production remains local, the perspective is much wider. Kasthall Design Studio works outside-in, placing the rug in a broader cultural context. The studio works with architects and designers internationally, with an open and curious approach. At its centre is an ongoing question of what a rug can be — not only as a surface, but as something that anchors a space and changes the relationship between the elements within it. These collaborations generate new meaning and help shape contemporary design culture.

Rooted in a region shaped by textile production, everything still happens under one roof — from yarn to weaving, tufting and finishing. Design and making are not separate processes here; they happen side by side, in constant exchange between material, technique and idea.

Masters of weaving

Kasthall’s weaving expertise continues to expand what a rug can be. Each one balances clarity and tactility, aesthetics and performance. Contemporary design, art and craft are translated into singular rugs that engage the senses, made to be lived with and used. Longevity is understood as part of good design.

Innovators of tufting

Tufting opens up a different set of possibilities. Kasthall’s tufted rugs are made by working strands of wool or linen through a backing with a tufting tool, giving considerable freedom in shape, texture and pile. A close understanding of technique and material makes it possible to build depth, softness and definition into the surface, and to work at scales and in forms that weaving does not always permit. Craftsmanship and technology — perfectly woven together.

The art of colour

Color is not chosen, it's crafted. It begins long before a rug is made. Kasthall designs and develops its own yarns and color recipes. The yarn is spun and prepared in the atelier in Kinna, Sweden, giving full control over texture, quality and expression. This way, every thread carries the depth, nuance and integrity that define a Kasthall rug.

Responsible from yarn to home

Responsibility at Kasthall is embedded in every step of the process — from raw material to finished rug. Working with selected natural fibers, trusted suppliers and local production in Kinna makes it possible to ensure lasting quality while continuing to improve how each rug is made.

95% of our virgin wool comes from New Zealand, alongside linen sourced from France and trusted partners across Europe.

the name kasthall

The name Kasthall comes from the land itself. Long before the factory was built, the site was known for a sloping rock by the river, where women gathered to wash clothes while children played nearby, throwing stones across the water. The name stayed — tied to place, to use, to everyday life.

Global presence. Local production.

Active in 30+ markets worldwide, with showrooms in Milan and New York and concept stores in Stockholm and Malmö. Kasthall collaborate closely with architects and designers across the globe — bringing Kasthall into homes, public spaces, and cultural institutions.
